Looking Ahead: How Will Democrats Approach This Key Election?

After the Democratic Party, especially in the races in the House of Representatives, enjoyed better than expected, successful results, with a swing of approximately 40 seats in that body, Democrats must take care, to not be overly celebratory, but to, rather, focus on the future, and the alternatives. Unfortunately, for that party, historically, they have often, shot – themselves – in – the – foot, and grasped defeat, from what should have been victories! They must take care, to clearly demonstrate, to the, approximately two – thirds, of American voters, who are not hard – core, Trump supporters, they will better serve and represent them, and take America, in a better direction, etc. Some must also be careful to avoid being too cute, or smug/ sarcastic, but, rather, seeking some common ground, where positive changes are possible, while assuring, the so – called, independent middle, feel comfortable, also. Who they choose to run for President, how the primaries are conducted, what issues are emphasized, how the message is articulated, the actual as well as perceived priorities, and economic issues, while reassuring those concerned with outside dangers, etc, will make a tremendous difference in the results.

1. Reviewing, identifying and supporting a specific candidate: Just as corporations, realize they must choose, a niche, which works best for them, the Democrats must seek a candidate, who has the ability to unite and unify, instead of polarize, and anger! They must avoid resorting to the nastiness, anger, and negativity, which the current President, seems to prefer! They must command the knowledge of the issues, as a positive contrast against the present occupant of the White House. The individual must articulate a thorough policy, and avoid the tendency to resort to the empty promises, and rhetoric, we often witness. The candidate must be ready, willing, and able, to offer quality alternatives, which appear, and are perceived as relevant, realistic, and sustainable, and explain, thoroughly, how any proposals will be paid for. He must clearly present a plan to reverse the huge federal deficits. He, or she, must clearly introduce methods, for Draining the Swamp, rather than simply, using slogans, and simplistic statements. While the candidate must be motivating, and inspiring, he must be considered honest and honorable, consistently!

2. Progressives, moderates: How will the Party opt for someone, who is acceptable to both, the moderate, as well as progressive wing of the party? Will the so – called, left – wing, be willing to proceed, realistically, and gradually, make needed changes, for the better, or will they be so demanding, that there will be deadly divisions, which might defeat any candidate. They must seek as their candidate, someone, who is a pragmatic, idealistic, desiring progressive, humane changes, while comforting moderates and independents, this will be achieved, in a fair, realistic, responsible, fiscally possible, manner.

No one knows what will happen in 2020. However, the Democratic Party, must examine how they will proceed, and attract sufficient support, to make a real difference, by getting elected.
